Welcome to the Simdon-Leys Home for Irrational and Insane Women. For a *cough* small fee, I can be persuaded to show you round, and allow you to gawp and gasp at the antics of the inhabitants. Just don't get too close: some of them bite.

Prologue.
Part 1.
Part 2.
Part 3.
Part 4.

Enjoy.

You're locking her in an asylum!

Spoiler:
Okay, this is going to be amusing. Of course this will probably make me a little sad too. I lost my asylum a few weeks ago and this will likely only remind me how much fun it was to torture certain sims. That's bad isn't it? Well, Marielle certainly needs to be in an asylum. Not much chance this experience will help her though. In fact in may end up making things worse. *cough* lots of aspriational failure*cough* Poor Ari will be locked in the house with these people. Well at least she can get out of the house for a while each day. Though she'll have the fear that one of them will burn the place down while she's gone. So since this is a part of your story, I'm curious have you played the whole asylum yet? If not, what are you going to do if Marielle should die in a fire? What a girl can dream can't she?

YES YES YES!

Spoiler:
I've been so excited to find who else was going to have to put up with Marielle's charming ways for ages, and it looks like it's going to be awesome! Yaaaaay Di.

Poor Robert, putting his rep on the line like that.. Brave lad, and it's lovely that he's willing to do that for Eddie. And I agree, I don't like the look of Mr and Mrs Gavigan one bit. Grr. Not that I mind them not spending on their patients, because the more sponge baths the better! I do wonder if they're going to get up to other meanie things too though, and I hope they don't go blasting Marielle's stay around the place.

But I am SO excited to seeing Marielle all good and punished at last.. and everyone else too
Call me Gin, you little haddocks of joy.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Sorry I had a moment.

Spoiler:
Aww Robert, don't be ashamed of your son. I mean, he's Stanley *heart farts*.

Man, you really can use that simself charm well, can't you? And you're right, that asylum IS too nice for Marielle. I'd prefer something along the lines of a dirty mud hole with some bars over it to prevent escape.

There's my little monster! Wow, she looks mad, doesn't she? Goooood. Also, I forgot how hilarious it looks on paper reading "Meadow: Family Sim, Cancer." Because that is a filthy, filthy lie. Ooh, and I wanna see Meredith burn too. Because like you said, NOBODY hurts Finch.

This is going to be a lot of fun. :D

Whee, Marielle's Punishment Prologue! I've been waiting for this forever!

As I go along:
Spoiler:
An Asylum Challenge? That is so awesome, and everyone seems to be doing either these or bachelor(ette) challenges these days. Which means I will definitely read it, although any of Marielle's Punishment would be awesome.

Heheh, your simself is using an awesome amount of acting when it comes to explaining the situation to Mr. Gavigan. And it's good to see Robert again.

Hm... I like the asylum, it's actually quite pretty in an old fairytale way. But it also looks like a black widow's web.

I actually like Aristide Xenobia, but the rest of the women deserve what they get. Especially Marielle.

All in all, I can't wait!

Brilliant. Simply brilliant!
Spoiler:
I am dancing around with glee at the moment. I'm excited to see Marielle punished. She's going to flip her lid when she sees the moldy bathroom. And then you went and threw in all those other sims that I wanted to see punished as well! I thought for a bit that you were going to have Marielle be the controllable but I much prefer the fact that you have made her a patient and another sim the controllable. This is going to be very fun to watch!

I enjoyed the way in which you tied everything to your legacy as well. You are very good at making your challenge stories fit in with everything that you have been writing. You are a very brave person to continue to keep your handicaps for the asylum and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. I am hoping that Marielle's location and treatment remain a secret in your hood though, especially for Robert and Eddie's sakes.

Thanks for this great preview of what is to come and happy anniversary of your first chapter!

Haha, I'm so glad you all like my mad idea on how to punish Marielle.

Mystery:
Spoiler:
I am indeed locking her in an asylum. I saw that you had lost yours because the hood exploded. I'm sorry about that.

Yeah the object of the exercise isn't to make her better, but to torture her, plain and simple.

I was brainstorming the idea with Lauri when she volunteered Ari. Since I am trying to make her permaplat, I guess it's alright, but yeah she has to look after them. At the moment she's out of the house for 10 hours at a time, so every time one of the inmates goes near the cooker, I hold my breath.

I'm still playing at the moment. It's been fun. I'll panic if anything happens to Marielle I think.

Gin:
Spoiler:
I know, it's months since I asked you if I could torture Lisa and Melody. Truth is my first idea was to get this out before chapter 21, but I came up with the idea of tying it into me stopping her from getting the kids, so it got delayed. Actually I need to ask you if I can borrow another character for sekrit project number 2...

I must admit I'm very pleased with the line up, and so far they have been very entertaining.

Robert is just awesome and wonderful. I love him to bits, and he's got loads of time left too. The Gavigans are just after the money, and their scrimping is actually good because it means that everyone gets to live in such squalor. :D

Katy:
Spoiler:
You're excited then?

I don't think Robert is exactly ashamed of Stanley, it is just he knows what he is like and accepts him for that. He just also knows what is said about him behind closed doors.

Hey, when I have a plan it is going to happen. ;) Yeah spruce the asylum up a bit and it'll be a lovely place. Good job it's a bit run down and there aren't enough beds etc then.

Meadow is spending so much of her time looking mad. I tell you there is something about family cancer sims. I've seen 3 sims grouchy face when speaking so far: Brittany, Meadow and Lisa. Brittany I expect, but the nice family sims? Not so much.

I was popping corn last night playing. It has been very entertaining so far. :D

Governess Anne:
Spoiler:
I love ACs and BCs I must admit, and since I did a BC last year, and the first challenge I attempted was an AC, I've been wanting to give it another go.

Hey my simself makes sure that the job gets done. Robert's a sweetheart and I'd have liked to do more with him, but never had the opportunity.

I'm very pleased with the asylum and have it saved. I'm pretty sure that I will use the building again somewhere else in my world. It just needs different stone and a more sophisticated internal layout to be a really nice house.

Ari's great, and Lauri volunteered her so...

It's fun so far.

Pen:
Spoiler:
I think it's safe to say that Marielle is not happy with anything she sees in the asylum. :D

I did think about having Marielle as the controllable, just to see her do all the work, but then I thought about it and how I would be working to make her happy, and that's not on. Plus there's all the stuff such as bladder failure, hunger distress, aspy failure, energy failure...the list goes on.

Thanks, I just can't help but tie everything in together. It's a compulsion.

Brave is certainly one word. Stupid is another. As is anal, because I can't not make it as Victorian as possible. We'll see how it works out.

At the moment I have no plans for her whereabouts to become common knowledge. The family has had enough going on lately.

Thanks, and 'll soon be working on the first proper part. :D

Yay and double yay!

Spoiler:
I've been waiting for this ever since you asked me about Katherine. I really can't wait to see what happens to her.

I was surprised the Marielle wasn't your controllable, although I realized that as the least dangerous of the group, it really made good sense to have Aristide be the one who may go free. There's also something satisfying about NOT seeing Marielle work her way out of the place. I'm enjoying imagining her and Katherine stuck in there for a good long time.

Lea:
Spoiler:
Thanks, and thanks for the loan of Katherine. So far she has been a little OCD, and it makes me laugh.

I did think about having Marielle as the controllable and making her do all the work, but it occurred to me that I would be working at making her happy, and that is not a good thing. Plus this way I get to see her in distress and failure, mwhahahaha. I was brainstorming with Lauri at the time and she volunteered Ari, so that's who I went with.

I must admit, part of me doesn't want to finish this challenge because I want to keep them all locked up forever.

Sue:
Spoiler:
I think that this will be right up her alley, and that she will have truly awful time.

Hehe, this is awesome.

Spoiler:
Marielle's in an asylum, Marielle's in an asylum.... all is right with the world *goodvibes* . I'm a little divided between disgust at Dr. Gavigan, for being such a selfish jerk, and happiness, because his selfish jerkiness means Marielle is in for a horrible time :D. I'll admit I don't know any of the others in the asylum, I really need to start working through my To-Read list, but I'll take your word for it that they deserve to be there.

Looking forward to the Asylum proper.

Spoiler:
Thanks, and yes, I've gone locked her up in an asylum.

I think that we can all get behind Dr Gavigan and his selfishness because of what Marielle will experience. Truth is I needed a reason for the asylum to be as run down as it is so, that's what I came up with.

Everyone in the place deserves to be there, and I do recommend their home legacies: they are some of my favourites. :D

Asylum!!!!

Spoiler:
Hahaha Marielle. Take that! I love that you decided to do an asylum challenge as punishment for Marielle's poor behaviour as legacy spouse. I really do believe that this is most suitable... and it fits the era very well.

Not too long ago I watched a movie where Angelina Jolie portays a woman who's son goes missing and the authorities all make her out to be crazy. Needless to say she along with many other women who hadn't done anything "really" wrong were all thrown into asylums and left to rot. Your legacy is obviously not from the 30's, but I'm pretty sure women didn't have a whole lot of say back then either. While normally I would feel for the victim... this is most definitely not the case with Marielle. I do like how Miss Meeee did have some second thoughts about the punishment though, I would have probably thought the same thing.

Love the cast! I don't know everyone but there are many who absolutely deserve to be locked up with Marielle. I can't wait to see all the drama ensue :)

Angela:
Spoiler:
Thanks, I take it you approve?

One of the reasons I decided to do this with Marielle is because it does fit with era very well. You're absolutely right, I think that some of the women who were confined to such facilities in other eras, were done so, not because they were mentally ill, but because they acted in a way that was thought not becoming and were seen as a nuisance.

I'm very pleased with everyone I've got locked away, I think they all deserve it, although some more than others.

I've written about 40 out of approx 130ish slides, so the first part is coming along quite nicely. I've got next week off of work, so if it's not up at the weekend, part one will be up soon after. :D

Postby professorbutters on July 7th, 2009, 10:06 pm

I know I mentioned that I love this idea.
Spoiler:
It's funny, because I am a huge *Woman in White* fan, and there that woman is unjustifiably locked up, which is spooky. That just lends some credibility to what happens here.

Hmm. I'm trying to decide what I make of Dr. and Mrs. Gavigan and wondering what accent she had originally. It's clear that they take all the very considerable sums spent by families to warehouse their wayward females and pocket it, whcih accounts for their wealth. There's something more there, though, obviously.

By the way, I like it that you're keeping all the same handicaps as your legacy. That will definitely make it harder.

I totally approve of the inmates. It's a nice balance between Maxis premade and Legacy Sims--they're other people's takes on Maxis premades and townies. Also, I'm glad Marielle isn't the controllable. The controllable usually suffers least. I lost two inmates to fire, so while I think you'll do better than that, we can always hope . . .

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Spoiler:
Oh gosh, I already love this to itty bitty bits and we haven't even seen any of the torture yet. AHAHAHAHAHA.

I love the theme you're using! I figured it might be something like that when you asked me if you could use Brittany (and you are certainly more than welcome to her, that's for sure! Plenty of people have demanded that she be punished, and now it will happen, haha!) And I also really really love the whole cast, and especially that Marielle is NOT the playable like I assumed she might be. Let there be misery!

I just hope Robert's reputation won't suffer in any way for doing this. He's a sweet man, really. More soon?

Commenty time!

Spoiler:
Well, I'm currently catching up on both this and your Legacy, but I finished reading through this thread first, so this is where you get the first comment. :)

I like the idea that there will always be some sort of scandal around the family - and, honestly, without it, plot is much harder.

This takes place during Chapter 21, doesn't it? Since it's before your wedding.

I find it interesting that you British people write Mr Legacy instead of Mr. Legacy - or is that a Victorian thing? Just, you know, a random comment.

It's still interesting to see how Victorians thought of such things, and the idea that not bonding with children was somehow indicative of a serious problem...well, we think it is, too, but I think we would think similarly of a man who didn't bond with the children. Not worthy of being put in an asylum, though.

SimDi is a master manipulator, isn't she?

I love the asylum set-up, and it's all so Victorian! Except for the gyroscope, but I guess you needed something that raised Body skill, and none of the options are really Victorian. I also love how he's describing it versus how it actually looks - it's really not all that nice of a place to stay, especially with the lack of beds and chairs.

I hope Robert's reputation isn't destroyed!

What is up with the Gavigans? Are we going to learn more about them throughout the asylum? And I kind of feel bad for Mrs. Gavigan, married to that dandy/dubious doctor.

I like how you chose all of the participants, though I have to admit that Melody's hair is also not very Victorian.

And, as always, can't wait for more!

Postby Dicreasy on July 11th, 2009, 4:43 pm

Ah-hah I have a few more comments to respond to I see. :D

Prof:
Spoiler:
I'm glad so many of you like the idea of locking her up. It made me smile when I thought of it.

I must admit I've not read Woman in White, but it is in my reading pile. I bought it a few months ago, but haven't started it yet. It really did happen, horrible thought as it is. Anything that was seen as a moral deviation could be cause to lock a woman up.

The Gavigans were fun to come up with. I needed a doctor who would be willing to lock someone up on what might be called flimsy evidence and who would also be siphoning off the money for their own gain. That lead to me creating a back story for the couple, but I'm undecided as to how much of it will become known to you all.

It will make it harder keeping the handicaps, but I can’t imagine compromising and putting a TV or stereo in there, so I'm sticking to them.

Thanks, the inmates are working well so far, and it’s been a lot of fun, as you will find out in part 1. I did think about having Marielle as the contollable for a moment, but then I thought about how if she was then I would be trying to make her happy, and I wouldn't get to see her humiliated either. This way is much more fun. I don; treally want to lose anyone, but who knows. If Marielle dies it might cause me problems too.

Marina:
Spoiler:
If you like it so far, you'll love the first part then. The torture gets going early.

Thanks, and yes, the fact that Marielle is a game generated sim gave me the idea to follow this theme. Brittany was so horrible to Carli, I want to make her get her comeuppance.

I decided once I thought about it, that I wanted to see Marielle be humiliated and distressed, I didn’t want to have to make her happy. So far it's been good. :)

Hopefully things can be kept quiet so that Robert's reputation is kept in tact.

More very, very soon. Like now.

Spoiler:
Hey it's fine, comments whenever they come are always welcome.

Yup, the family will always have something following them I think. It's much more interesting that way.

Yup, the prologue takes place during the end of 21.1, but the actual challenge takes place from then on, throughout the rest of chapter 21, and before chapter 22.

Ah the differences in British English grammar and American English grammar. We don’t put a full stop after Mr, Dr, Mrs or Miss because we consider them to be contractions and not abbreviations, and unlike with abbreviations, contractions don’t need a full stop after them.

The Victorians had very specific ideas about the role of women, and it's something I want to explore in a meta on my LJ, but I've not had the time to do so yet. Certain deviations from this were viewed as indicative of a mental imbalance, and women were committed to asylums over them.

SimDi is very good at manipulating things to her advantage. She may not be able to control events directly any more, but she has found other ways to get the best results she can.

Thank you, I've tried to keep it as authentic as I can while following the rules. Yeah the dance sphere game object isn't Victorian, despite my recolour of it, but the idea is authentic. When I was researching a bit about them, I came across several websites, including this one, that made mention of the fact that one of the treatments in asylums for both men and women was the rotary chair. This was a rotating chair patients were strapped into and spun at 100 revolutions per minute. Sounds a lot like the dance sphere to me, so I decided to use it.

Hehe, yeah Dr Gavigan describes what he thinks people want to hear, and not what it is really like.

I hope it's not destroyed either.

As I say to Prof, I needed to have a doctor who was willing to commit a woman on a flimsy excuse, and would be taking the money to use as he saw fit in order to explain the conditions in the asylum. That led me to a backstory for them, but I don’t know if I will ever share it. It all depends on how this pans out.

Thanks, the list of inhabitants makes me smile. Melody's hair may not be that Victorian, but I wanted a way to show that it is Gin's Melody I'm using, so I kept her hair as it was.

Next part now!

For your entertainment, the asylum is now open to visitors. Please have your fee ready and walk this way. I'll unlock the gates.

*gets popcorn*
Spoiler:
AHAHAHA, MARIELLE PEED HERSELF, AHAHAHAHA! That was so worth it. I could watch that over and over and over again.

ROFL, now I really want to see Indy give Brittany an old-school beat-down. INDYYYYYYYY! Indy totally pwning Brittany is the BEST THING EVAR EXCEPT FOR MARIELLE PEEING HERSELF. And since he has 10 Outgoing, he can just keep coming by and doing it over and over and over again.

Hee, and he gets to slappity Katherine too! THEY DESERVE IT, INDY.

I'd guess that Brittany tried to hug Indy and he refused, or he tried to hug her and she refused. Or one of them went in for a rejected Brag or Dirty Joke. If Katherine's friends with Brittany, she might have a bit of a "sympathy hate" for Indy because of the pwnage. That happened when I was breaking up Coco and Indy in college--Rocky got mad at the guy Coco "cheated" with, even though that guy had never done anything to him personally.

Things are never dull when there's a Vetinari in the mix!

OMG moar torture! Yay. Big comment of doom here.

Spoiler:
I love the idea of the Diary Format, though it's weird seeing how she justifies everything in her head. I could say the same for Meadow, I guess. Either way, I also loved the inksplotch on the first page. Made it seem more real.

Bwahaha, three minutes and they're already about to pee themselves. That's record time! AAHAHA MARIELLE PEED HERSELF. So it begins. It only gets worse from here, cow. Oh, and Meadow. That's a double whammy. Also, I love how when she gets angry she reverts back to her less proper accent. It just proves that as much as she tries to hide it, she's still that poor girl from the slums. And she's already losing it with the baths. She's going crazier for faster than I expected.

I love that Meredith is just too stupid to know she's being made fun of. She deserves it, because.. NOBODY HURTS FINCH.

If I ever do another asylum, god help me, I love Fudge but that was a nightmare for me, I have gotta put one of those gyroscopes in there. So much pain from that contraption! And they just keep going back for more.

BWAHAHAHA, I had to laugh as Meadow went into her delusional rant. I can just imagine her saying it like it was normal, too, And you used the frumpy shovel faced basket line that I'm quite proud of myself for! Run Marielle, RUN!!! And yes, fruit loop is a good description. I see the other inmates are quickly learning that getting on her bad side is probably a bad idea.

EEUGH, the way she talks about her sons as if they're just nothing is disgusting. And I'm not familiar with Lisa, but We Hate Lisa Day taught me that she is a horrible, horrible woman. Maybe they can go to heck in the same handbasket.

Did they really charge asylums a fee back then so you can gawp at the inmates? Heck, I don't know, they might even do it now. Oh well, Marielle belongs in the zoo anyway, right next to the cows.

AHAHAHA, Go Indy, go! Kick her butt! I have a feeling he would have thrown down but wanted to impress someone... I cannot believe they're screwing with Indy of all people though, that's probably the worst person to screw with, unless you've got Archie or Cypress wandering around somewhere.

This has been fun already, and it's not letting me down. Seeing Marielle slowly and slowly lose it and repeatedly not get beds is awesome, and I can't wait for more. :D
